1674 - Overkill Where it Hurts 1994

Overkill's second release for Atlantic Records, W.F.O. probably represents the formal beginnings of a '90s commercial swoon for the thrash metal band. The group had formed on the East Coast during the early-'80s thrash heyday, and somehow managed to make a name for itself within a genre dominated by mostly West Coast artists like Metallica, Slayer, and Megadeth. It seemed like there was very little room for artists from New York's metal underground in the very tight quarters of aggressive metal's small but staunchly loyal market. With the exception of Anthrax, there weren't too many bands capable of making a real mark on the national metal scene, but Overkill was never discouraged, and on a couple of occasions (most notably after the 1991 release of the band's finest effort, Horrorscope) it seemed that things might work out for the group. The most instantly recognizable change is in the volume of DD Verni's bass and the tone of the guitars, you can check it on this "Where it hurts".

1608 - Overkill World Of Hurt 1993

The riffs on the release "I hear Black" are a blast. Incredibly catchy riff and amazing grooves, all mixed with great, heavy production. Mr. Cannavino and Mr. Gant are great shredders (not as great as Dave or Gustafson, though they sure are qualified to be Overkill's axemen). Blitz is still badass as always. His low-pitched vocals are very well done and quite balanced. The way he changes from low-pitched to high-pitched vocals is really amazing, and so metal-oriented. D.D. Verni´s bass is really low-tuned, mixed with an 80's-like guitar tone and Tim Mallare´s wxplosive drums. The drum fills are pretty versatile as far as the groove, thrash and blues approaches are concerned. World Of Hurt is catchy, some nice riffs and drumming.

703 - Overkill Elimination 1989

"Elimination" is one of the highlights of Overkill´s foutrh album "The Years of Decay". Excellent guitar work by Bobby Gustafson, the riffs are crushing. The lyrics deal with the concerns for AIDS in the late 80's and a demand for a cure.

517 - Overkill Devil By The Tail 2003

Considering the health problems Overkill frontman Bobby “Blitz” Ellsworth faced at this period, Overkill has remained one prolific band. Overkill’s CD “Killbox 13” follows on the heels of their live 2 DVD set.
”Devil By The Tail” recalls the days of mighty thrash metal. It finds Overkill still stubbornly refusing to shed its thrash roots -- and refusing to write a throwaway tune, for that matter. The combination of the band's stellar riffs and rock-solid arrangements with Colin Richardson's thick, beefy production is a big, juicy steak waiting to be devoured by any self-respecting carnivore metalhead.

376 - Overkill Hello From The Gutter 1988

"Hello From The Gutter" is the classic Overkill song that just about every Metal fan knows, which is an all out riff/thrash fest. Great song from beginning to end, nice solo, and great vocal delivery.
"Welcome to the gutter, we've been expecting YOUUU, HAHAHAHAHA!".

131 - Overkill Feel the Fire 1985

Overkill debut "Feel The Fire“ can be labelled a real classic of the US Metal/Thrash Metal era. Bobby “Blitz” Ellsworth (vocals) sounded like a mixture between an angry Bruce Dickinson and Tom Araya in times of “Show No Mercy”. The band’s overall sound was raw and wild, but it’s just this wildness the band works with that makes “Feel The Fire” into a real classic. The prominent bass, which plays a similarly important role with Overkill as with Iron Maiden, can also be found on “Feel The Fire” already. Furthermore D.D. Verni and his playing makes for a big part of the Overkill sound and basically replaces the second guitar.

43 - Overkill Rotten to the Core 1985

"Feel the Fire" is a successful debut album from these New Jersey thrash legends. There are some early-career Anthrax sounds heard here, as swift chug-thrashing is the norm. The anthemic chorus of "Rotten to the Core" can still be heard at shows today.
