1629 - Magnum On a Storyteller's Night 1985

"On a Storyteller's Night" marked a transition for Magnum´s first five albums, recorded for Jet Records, to its major-label contract with Polydor Records, which commenced with 1986's Vigilante. Dave Ling notes that singer Bob Catley "has theorized that On a Storyteller's Night was important for offering a bridgehead between the more pompous early Magnum style and something more commercially oriented". On A Storyteller's Night starts very slowly to then blows strong at chorus time, and then its again very calm. The song goes up and down between chorus and verse, repeating and merging perfectly.

1323 - Magnum Baby Rock Me 1978

The debut from this Birmingham, England band featured a flute-laced progressive rock sound similar to that of Jethro Tull. (The band's sound would later become more mainstream). Upbeat rockers like "Baby Rock Me" are enjoyable.

1009 - Magnum Dragons are Real 2007

A fairy tale feel here for a song about mythical creatures from English lore. This could easily be a tale told by a traveler of the winding road through the kingdoms' come. A declaration that dragons are indeed real. The pace is rocking but kept in check, and the chorus is snappy but not too over-the-top.

949 - Magnum Days of no Trust 1988

The overall sound of Magnum is a mix of melodic guitars, progressive structures, glorious harmonies, big keyboards and straight forward hard rock.
Released in 1988, Magnum's "Wings of heaven" was a real breath of fresh air. The album opens with the wonderful "Days of no trust", a belting slice of pomp rock with soaring guitars and a superb vocal performance by Bob Catley.

818 - Magnum Don’t wake the Lion 1988

Magnum's "Wings of heaven" was a real breath of fresh air. Yes, it leans heavily towards the hairspray heaven rock of bands such as Boston, Styx, Journey, etc., but there are enough prog influences to make this a fine album. “Don’t wake the lion“ is one of the few epics of the bands repertoire. Surely Magnum never got more progressive than this. The slow hypnotic atmosphere builds up the tension quite nicely. The middle section is one of the few instrumental parts of the album.

770 - Magnum Just Like An Arrow 1985

'On A Storyteller's Night', an album full of stunning keys passages, the voice of Bob Catley shines on every piece, not to mention the main man of the band Tony Clarkin who did a great job here, the guitar sounds not to heavy not to mellow. For many fans, it remains their definitive album because every track is a winner.
'Just Like An Arrow' is one of the great AOR anthems, with a storming keyboard and guitar riff and a well executed vocal from Bob Catley.

"Vigilante" is one of the three best Magnum albums and is among the most ingenious commercial Rock albums of all times. This album is very good: strong material, well performed and well produced. Magnum deliver quality rock with a lot of melody from the start to the end. You get rockers as well as ballads. Songs like the dramatic “Vigilante”, with its noblest background choirs or the equally great “Red On The Highway” rock like hell.

'The Spirit' is a progressive number, with some neat acoustic guitars and a subtle vocal by Catley before a huge drum sound kicks in and heralds the heavier section, with some truly monstrous power chords from Tony Clarkin's guitar and a wondrous vocal by Bob Catley, yet there are some intricacies in the keyboard and guitars that really makes this worth listening to for prog fans.
