41 - Magnum The Spirit 1982

Forming in the early '70s, Magnum (led by guitarist/songwriter Tony Clarkin and vocalist Bob Catley) achieved their most notable success during their early years. Chase The Dragon in 1982 reached #17 in the UK, and included several songs that would be mainstays of the bands live set, notably "Soldier Of The Line", "Sacred Hour" and "The Spirit". 'The Spirit' is a progressive number, with some neat acoustic guitars and a subtle vocal by Catley before a huge drum sound kicks in and heralds the heavier section, with some truly monstrous power chords from Tony Clarkin's guitar and a wondrous vocal by Bob Catley, yet there are some intricacies in the keyboard and guitars that really makes this worth listening to for prog fans.
