249 - Iron Maiden The Number of the Beast 1982

"The number of the beast" was a world-wide success providing definitive songs such as the title track, “Run to the Hills” and “Hallowed Be Thy Name”. With Di'Anno out of the band in favour of the Air Raid Siren, Harris could now weave his magic and pen songs that matched his determination for Maiden to succeed. Dickinson´s strong, operatic vocals opened many, many avenues of unexplored ground for the band and this was proved as the album dropped straight into number one in the UK Charts. Side two kicks off with the haunting Vincent Price voice over before the title track: "Woe to you, Oh Earth and Sea, for the Devil sends the beast with wrath, because he knows the time is short... Let him who hath understanding reckon the number of the beast for it is a human number, its number is Six hundred and sixty six" Up the Irons
