“Sail Away Sweet Sister” was ostensibly written by May “to the sister I never had” (according to the epigram on the lyric sheet), but the lyrics are, at best, ambiguous.
A quiet piano opening clears the mist around May as he beholds the sweet female of indeterminate relation before him. This slightly sentimental rocker was never a hit, but features a killer transition from the bridge into the solo section, and then one of Brian's best (if not flashy) guitar solos.
