The actual recording "Van Halen II" took place less than a year after the release of the band's eponymous debut album; the process was completed in three weeks.
This song has a lot going for it: a radio-friendly length, a memorable opening riff, solid pop-like lyrics, that trademark Van Halen chorus singing, and a taut structure.
David Lee Roth originally wanted to call the song "Dance Lolita Dance", but Eddie convinced him that "Dance the Night Away" was more suitable and the chorus was changed to reflect that.
