1405 - The High Numbers Zoot Suit 1964
"Zoot Suit" b/w "I'm the Face" was the first single of the British rock band the Who, who recorded it under the name the High Numbers in an attempt to appeal to a mod audience.
"Zoot Suit" was written (with music copied from American Soul records - Zoot Suit being a direct lift of the tune of The Dynamics "Misery". Before The Who made it big, they were briefly known as The High Numbers. Well, they weren’t really known as The High Numbers, but they did actually manage to get two songs recorded for Fontana under that very name. Those tracks are now considered the last few baby steps taken before the band blossomed into The Who, but with time spent it becomes obvious that they deserve a lot more credit than that.
