1455 - Satan Break Free 1983
Satan are a heavy metal band originating from Newcastle, England in 1979, known as part of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal movement. Though generally obscure throughout their career, the band is considered influential for playing a form of proto-thrash/speed metal that was fairly advanced by the standards of the early 1980s.[
Production-wise, their first album, "Court in the Act", is guitar heavy and the vocals are also emphasized in the mix. The guitar tones rip you in half with the overdriven, reverb-drenched EQ mastery that is employed.
With the unique vocal style of Brian Ross leading the way, Satan gives you a dose of what would become known as speed metal in the future. The twin guitars of Russ Tippins and Steve Ramsey provide a magical array of metal might and fury.
"Break free" opens side two and we findan abundance of scale runs and brief lead breaks that loosen the arrangement significantly, and even when settling into a thudding, chunky, mid-tempo groove, this free flowing feel persists.
