352 - Deicide Sacrificial Suicide 1990

“Sacrificial Suicide” is about killing yourself in the name of Satan. To give him credit, Glen Benton (Bass & Vocals) actually admitted in an interview that “I don’t promote anyone killing themselves; not yet, second record will. It starts off with the dark fade in a la “Black Magic” and continues with a riff that has a strong sense of urgency (do it now!) After a rhythmic chunky riff, it ups the ante and switches to a more melodic tremolo riff to back the vocals, then mixes them both into one. It continues to get progressively more intense, offering a guitar break and then a new riff. All of this tension is released in the best part of the song: the breakdown. What makes this even more compelling however, are the accompanying lyrics. “Damned to hell, end my life, Wrath of God” all in perfect rhythm with the riff.
