1648 - Carcass Empathological Necroticism 1989

"Symphonies of sickness" sounds great; the sound coming from that guitar is saturated and definable but still totally crushing. There are myriads of great riffs thrown out by this guitar, hell even some great melodies crawl through the mud and rear their monstrous head on this masterpiece. The drums have a great sound, a range of beats from a talented drummer. 'Empathologal Necroticism starts off with some crushing chordwork and skin-bashing courtesy of Ken Owen, it soon moves towards a riff that carries a hint of melody underneath the sickening vocals. Unison between the different vocal styles are used effectively in different places throughout this track; and the opposing styles are also used to compliment and contradict each other. There's a delicious section where the speed erupts complete with blast beats and both growls and screams from behind the mic stand. There's also a nice syncopated riff that's only helped by the crushing guitar sound, and of course the amazing vocals. There's a great riff where the guitar takes centre stage and the drums compliment it well, which flows nicely into another riff showcasing that the band can actually write a good song aswell as make you physically sick.

1408 - Carcass Child's Play 1996

On the line-up front, Amott departed from the band right after "Heartwork", and on the following world tour ex-Venom guitarist Mike Hickey (who also is the first and last American to have ever joined the band), took over. But him and the band weren't in the same wavelength, as Jeff himself said, and they hired Carlo Regadas for the new album, "Swansong". The songwriting is quite different respect to the Carcass-standards. In fact, the construction of the tracks appears to be simplified, being mostly based on verse-chorus-verse structures. The result is an odd hybrid between aggression and melody, wisely emphasized by almost constant mid-paced tempos. Anyway, the distinctive sound of the band is well preserved, though undeniably progressed. The riffs, solos and melodies are all truly memorable and there are some great songs on here including their "Child's Play".

1058 - Carcass Heartwork 1993

"Heartwork" marks another giant leap into the band's musical progression. The change is already stated from the artwork, showing a sculpture by H.R. Giger; gone are the bleeding viscera and fermenting innards of the previous albums.

Again, Steer handled all rhythm guitar duties to help gain consistency between the many layered guitars that built Carcass' best production to date. Michael Amott left the band after the recording of the album before founding Spiritual Beggars.

Maybe Carcass´s best album til now, and the title track, standing out among the songs included.

1036 - Carcass Arbeit Macht Fleisch 1993

The best song in the album "Heartwork". This song is remarkable as all the instruments have something good to highlight, the riffs and leads, the drums, the vocals and bass are astonishing, not to mention that it is the strongest song in the album.

130 - Carcass Incarnated Solvent Abuse 1991

Carcass were a British goregrind/melodic death metal band formed by Napalm Death guitarist Bill Steer together with drummer Ken Owen in 1985. They were based in Liverpool. In 1987, bassist and vocalist Jeff Walker, formerly of the Electro Hippies, joined them. Carcass have been a very influential band within the death metal scene. "Necroticism - Descanting the Insalubrious" is the third album from the band, released in 1991 through Earache Records. It could be described as a concept album, as many of the tracks describe economical ways to dispose of dead bodies......the lyrics are a bit weird:

Intenacious, intersecting
Reaving fats from corporal griskin
Culled...for sodden gelatine brayed
Skeletal groats triturated, desinently
Exsiccated, sere glutenate brewed
For frivolous solvent abuse...
