993 - In Flames The Hive 1997

The lead guitars are probably the best on "The Hive", with the verse having a more creepy and psycho lead. After the second chorus, the part comes in that makes "The Hive" such a brilliant song: the solo’s. The first part is a masterfully written melodic part that ends with a classical tone on it.

857 - In Flames December Flower 1995

"The Jester Race" is the best album from In Flames era pure Melodic Death Metal, unfortunately for the fans of this precise style, that would also be the last. The Swedish band was still playing a lot of acoustic almost classical music, and was still very close to its alter ego Dark Tranquillity. One of the most surprising songs is 'December Flower', which happens to be a perfect definition for the phrase "melodic death".

518 - In Flames Come Clarity 2006

In Flames is a melodic death metal band from Gothenburg, Sweden founded in 1990. Along with Dark Tranquillity and At the Gates, they pioneered what is now known as melodic death metal. "Come Clarity" features the return of the guitar harmonies and the solos to the band, and it is described by the band as being the mixture of the past and the present sound of In Flames. This track truly is an epic masterpiece. Beginning with some acoustic guitars, gentle basswork and slightly echoey drums (overall, quite reminiscent of some of the acoustic parts from the "Whoracle" days, but more atmospheric), Anders then joins in with almost pained-sounding vocals. Suddenly with a scream, the chorus erupts with a wall-of-sound of powerchords, driving drums, soaring synth line, and some of Anders' best vocal work yet.
