1481 - The Kinks Victoria 1969

This "Arthur" track is a satirical ode to the British queen, featuring some of Davies’ musings on the English identity. He even manages to work in a dig at the late monarch’s legendary prudishness: “Sex was bad and obscene, and the rich were so mean.” "Victoria" is a statement of fact in the nineteenth century, the Kinks hymn to tradition. Dave is yelling his head off, and Mick Avory's drumming is so fine, he's always been there, to the Kinks as Charlie Watts is to the Stones.

971 - The Kinks Big Sky 1968

The Kinks are perhaps the most British of the British invasion bands, incorporating traditional pop, blues, folk and country.
"The Village Green Preservation Society" is described as "a concept album lamenting the passing of old-fashioned English traditions". The album as a whole is rather cozy, fun, and brings back a sense of youth. In "Big Sky", the mood softens for a sweet little sung passage, and then glides into a really beautiful, dreamy middle section that's somewhat reminiscent of 'Waterloo Sunset'.

889 - The Kinks You really got me 1964

"You Really Got Me" is a rock song written by Ray Davies and performed by his band, The Kinks. It was the group's breakthrough hit, and established them as one of the top British Invasion acts in the United States, reaching Number 7 there later in the year. It was later included on the Kinks' debut album, "The Kinks".

674 - The Kinks All day and all of the Night 1964

The Kinks were an English pop/rock group formed in 1963, and categorised as a British Invasion band, along with the other members of the so-called Big Four (along with The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and The Who). Despite being less commercially successful than these three contemporaries, mostly because of an untimely four-year ban from the United States in the mid-to-late 1960s, the Kinks are cited among them as one of the most important and influential rock bands of all time.
"All Day and All of the Night", produced by Shel Talmy, reached #2 on the UK Singles Chart and #7 on the United States Charts. The song relies on a simple sliding power chord riff.
