1237 - Diamond Head The Prince 1980

Diamond Head were one of the first new wave of British heavy metal bands. "Lightning to the Nations" is their debut album, it catapulted Diamond Head to the forefront of the NWOBHM scene and was a big influence to many later metal bands, including Metallica and Megadeth. "The Prince" is one track where the bass makes it's presence more than known. Underneath the rhythm focused guitar riffing, the bass spew out melodic licks, rolls and markings. The use of keyboard in the intro is interesting, as very few bands used electric keys in 1980, and even fewer metal bands did the same.

808 - Diamon Head In the Heat of the Night 1982

In 1981, after releasing a couple of singles, Diamond Head finally signed a deal with a major record label - MCA Records - and put out an EP called "Four Cuts", which was a taste of the upcoming LP. Released in September 1982, "Borrowed Time" was by some considered Diamond Head's official debut, mostly because it contained two songs from "Lightning To The Nations" (both re-recorded). Overall containing seven tracks, the album was a milestone for the band's career, making it widely recognizable on the NWOBHM scene and scoring top notes from critics and reviewers worldwide. "Borrowed Time" brought along some of Diamond Head's best songs to date, such as the intense "In The Heat Of The Night".

100 - Diamond Head Am I Evil? 1980

Diamond Head are a New Wave Of British Heavy Metal band who never really had much success in the U.S., but did well in Europe. They were also huge influences on thrash bands like Metallica and Megadeth. Metallica covered several of their songs over the years, including this "Am I Evil". Diamond Head formed in 1976 and broke up for the first time in 1985. They reformed for a few years in the early '90s, and then split again until 2002.
