404 - Iced Earth Travel In Stygian 1991
Iced Earth is an American heavy metal band that combines influences from thrash metal, power metal, progressive metal, opera, Speed metal and NWOBHM. The central figure of Iced Earth is rhythm guitarist and songwriter Jon Schaffer, he first had the idea when taken to a Kiss concert and was inspired by them and their support band Judas Priest. Schaffer formed the band under the name Purgatory in Indiana in 1984. After moving to Florida Schaffer was forced to change his band's name by another group called Purgatory. He settled on Iced Earth, a name that had been suggested by a longtime friend who was killed in a motorcycle accident. "Night of the Stormrider" is Iced Earth's second full-length album, the only album featuring lead singer John Greely and drummer Rick Secchiari, the last track is "Travel In Stygian", the highlight song of the album. This one burns and burns from the first riff and raises hairs on your neck with Greely's vocals.
Matt Barlow joined Iced Earth after the "Night of the Stormrider" tour with Blind Guardian in Europe, as a replacement for John Greely. He sings on the perfomance below.
